Sino-Thai Forum on Traditional and Innovative Drug Research & Guangxi Pharmacological Society Academic Frontier Exchange Conference Successfully Held at Our University

On the morning of November 22, 2024, the Sino-Thai Forum on Traditional and Innovative Drug Research, co-hosted by the College of Pharmacy and Guangxi Pharmacological Society, along with the Academic Frontier Exchange Conference of Guangxi Pharmacological Society, was successfully held at the 21st-floor lecture hall of Zhuoyue Building on our campus. The forum featured keynote speeches by Prof. Supat Jiranusornkul, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Chiang Mai University; Assoc. Prof. Arisa Bonness, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University; Assoc. Prof. Chatchai Chaotham, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chulalongkorn University; as well as Dr. Huang Xiaoming and Dr. Zhang Haili from our university. The event was chaired by He Ping, Vice Dean of the College of Pharmacy, with over 300 faculty members and students in attendance.

Yang Jie, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, emphasized that this forum not only served as a significant component of the university anniversary series but also created a valuable platform to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Thailand in traditional medicine and innovative drug research. She expressed confidence that the in-depth discussions and intellectual exchanges would bring fresh inspiration and momentum to bilateral academic collaboration and pharmaceutical development.

During the forum, Prof. Supat Jiranusornkul delivered a lecture titled "Molecular Dynamics Simulation in Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Applications," elucidating the implementation of molecular dynamics simulation in Thailand's pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Assoc. Prof. Chatchai Chaotham presented an accessible overview of bioactive products derived from local flora and fauna in his speech "Cure from Nature: A Promising Pharmaceutical Innovation to Maintain Human Well-being and Save Lives in The Changing World," highlighting their therapeutic potential. Assoc. Prof. Arisa Bonness explored innovative delivery systems in her presentation "Phytosome Delivery Gymnema inodorum for Targeting Inflammation and Insulin Resistance," detailing strategies for treating metabolic disorders.

From our university, Dr. Huang Xiaoming proposed novel therapeutic approaches for RAS-driven colorectal cancer in his report "New Strategy of Statin Combined with 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose for Colorectal Cancer Treatment," while Dr. Zhang Haili discussed the application prospects of semi-synthetic platforms in antitumor drug development through his presentation "Constructing Semi-Synthetic Platforms to Facilitate Efficient Production and Functional Exploration of Didemnin-Based Antitumor Drugs." The lively Q&A session sparked vibrant academic discussions, broadening research perspectives for participants.

The successful hosting of this forum has enhanced academic exchanges and cooperation between our college and leading Thai universities in traditional and innovative drug research. It established a high-quality platform for Sino-Thai scientific collaboration in pharmaceutical sciences, injecting new vitality into the advancement of first-class discipline development and internationalization of pharmaceutical education at our university.
